Career Opportunities

The field of organ and tissue donation is vital to building a healthy and caring community that embraces the true meaning of leaving behind a legacy of life for those who are in need. Legacy of Life Hawai‘i (LLH) is the only organization in the state of Hawaii authorized to recover tissue and organs for transplantation. LLH offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

LLH is looking to fill the following positions:

Family Services Coordinator (FSC)

FSC is the main point of contact between Legacy of Life Hawaii (LLH) and donor families. The FSC is an advocate for organ and tissue donation. The FSC is responsible for providing support and assistance to family members of potential organ / tissue donors, providing information for decisions regarding donation; evaluating and facilitating each family’s understanding of brain death; obtaining authorization/ acknowledgement for donation and facilitating communication with donor families following the donation process.  In circumstances of First-Person Authorization, the FSC will provide information to the family in a sensitive and compassionate manner, while advocating for the wishes of the decedent.  The FSC also works collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Services, clinical staff and hospital services staff, as necessary, in the planning, design, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of educational and quality assurance programs related to donation. The FSC works collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Services to develop bereavement materials and resources for use in the hospital setting and for post donation follow up.

Qualifications:  Two (2) years of experience as a FSC and demonstrated expertise in authorization processes for organ and tissue donation.  Experience in Social Work, Case Management, Grief Support, Hospice Care, Counseling, Crisis Intervention, or Pastoral Care may be substituted.  Work under stress, ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.  Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills; maturity, stamina, and self-motivation.  Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, and knowledge of databases preferred.

Organ Program Manager (OPM)

OPM is responsible for day-to-day operations and bottom-line results for the Organ Program.  Oversees all aspects of donor evaluation and management.  Participates in administrative call to ensure efficient operation of donation activities.  The OPM is responsible for serving on the Legacy of Life Hawaii (LLH) Leadership Team to include weekly management meetings, participation in goal setting and implementation, and in general support the LLH mission both internally and externally.  The OPM facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among other OPO programs and services to achieve and maintain efficient operations of the organization. 

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other health related field with three (3) years experience as a Procurement Transplant Coordinator or comparable position in organ procurement. Must demonstrate current knowledge and expertise in organ procurement organization operations.  Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, and database knowledge.  Travel by personal automobile to Oahu hospitals, events or Honolulu International Airport for travel to neighbor island hospitals or events by charter or commercial aircraft.  Work requirements may extend beyond a 24-hour shift with few breaks.  Must be self-directed, assertive, and resourceful.  Effective problem solving, tact, courtesy, accepting and carrying out responsibilities for decision-making and planning.  Strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
